Movie English 4:Blood Diamond

I watched a Blood Diamond in movie English class. 

This is question from teacher and my feedback about this movie.

1. Blood Diamond is based on a true story about the diamond industry in Africa.

Q: What does the title, "Blood Diamond" mean?

A: 1. Blood Diamond mean source of money of warring parties of the jewelry witch including a diamond produced in civil war areas such as Sierra Leone. Many people are treated like a slave for a diamond and are sacrificed. It is idea of human live than diamonds. People wearing a diamond don’t know the background. They don’t know that it is the thing which unrelated people are sacrificed as for the diamond, and was made.

2. Leonardo DiCaprio plays a diamond smuggler in the movie. Throughout the movie you can see that his life undergoes a drastic transformation.

Q: What is the transformation? Give specific examples from the movie.

A: Danny Archer told about his childhood and growing up in the movie. His mother was sexually assaulted and god shot. His father was beheaded and his neck was danged in barn. He told maddy that as homeliness. He excuse saying “TIA ( This is Africa)” in hell in which people suffer interminable as cheat, kill and exploitation. Danny is bloodless because of background but he became influenced by humanly Solomon Vandy

3. This semester we covered five true stories about extraordinary people who have made a difference in their own lives and in the lives of others.

Q: What did you learn from these movie?

A: There are many people in the world. Needless to say, they are diverse race, age, sex, and background. Sometimes I worry about problems, but I watched five movies in this class, I feel so little compared to their true stories.

4. Rank each of the five movies on a scale of 1 to 10 ( 1 being the lowest and 10 being the highest). Please give specific reasons why you ranked them the way you did.

A: 1. I rank The Pursuit of Happiness is 10, because I was brought up in a motherless family, too. So this is the movie which I remember the breeding, the life that I walked with father in a motherless family, so I cried when I watched this movie first time. Blood Diamond is 9, because I wanted to remember this movie sometimes when I came to wear a diamond. This movie was very message movie. Freedom Writers is 8, because I was moved student’s transformation. I wanted meet teacher like Erin. Erin Brockovich is 7, because I think I want to be a tough girl like Erin Brockovich. Coach Carter is 6, because this movie told me how important have a dream.

5. Did you enjoy this class? Why or why not? What would you have done differently? If you didn't like the movies, please make a list of some of the movies you would have rather seen.

A: 1. I very enjoyed this class! I have seen two movies of these five movies. But I just watched movie, I didn’t think that movie deeply. So I can learn many things from movies by grace of this class.

This is story about family without mother. There are a children called Sara and Sara's father. They are poor. So they starts to work at market as Mister Fruit. But Sara's father defraud customer of money. Sara sees everything and she was angry. They fought. Sara says "You're dishonest! I don't want to work for you. Next day,Sara start working by oneself And Sara's shop became successful.. Sara's father do the house work for Sara. I also grew up motherless , so I feel a bond with this story.

Movie English 3 : The Pursuit of Happiness & Erin Brockovich

I watched The Pursuit of Happiness & Erin Brockovich in Movie English class.

This is questions from teacher and my feedback.

1. In the movie, "The "Pursuit of Happiness", Will Smith tells his son to "never let anyone tell you that you can't do something".

Q: What do you think he meant by that? And why did he say that?

A: Will smith tells his son “never let anyone tell you that you can’t do something.” I think this means that people have a dream, and people should protect it. When people can’t do something themselves, they are going to tell you that you can’t do it. If you want something, go and get it. When people can’t do something, people say others “you can’t do it.” It’s not always true that you can’t do something for real if someone can’t do something and someone tell you “you can’t do it.” Anyway I construed that not care what someone might say and advance in the direction of own dream.

2. In the movie, "The "Pursuit of Happiness", Will Smith shows up for an interview for an internship position at a famous stock broking company wearing regular clothes and covered in paint.

Q: Why did he show up like that? And why did he get the internship position? What would you have done in that situation?

A: Chris showed up for an interview for an internship wearing regular clothes and covered in paint because he couldn’t pay parking fine and spent the night in a police cell. So he tried interview wearing shabby clothes. Chris was salesperson of medical device but it wasn’t sale well. So he and Linda got divorced because tight budget. And he decided that working at brokerage house. Chris used a Rubik’s Cube to get publicity for the company’s manager of the personnel affairs section. If I were in his shoes, I not know what I will do. Anyway I will do my best with things that are in front of my eyes.

3. In the movie, "Erin Brockovich", Julia Roberts who plays Erin in the movie, got a job at as a small law film. 

Q: How did she end up working there? Do you agree or disagree with her approach to getting the job?

A:  She was turned down by Ed what working at Ed’s law firm. But she wasn’t leaving till the hire at there. I agree her approach because she has passion to want to working at there and eventually, she could work at there.

4. In the movie, "Erin Brockovich", Julia Roberts talks about life not always turning out the way we expect it to.

Q: What do you think she meant by that? Give examples from the movie.

A:Erin was beauty queen when she was teenager. And she imagined some bright future. But the reality turned out to be very different. So she made an effort and successful. It’s not what she had in mind but she thought that she’s life is great.

5. Both movies are true stories about people who were able to overcome extreme financial hardships.

Q: Why do you think the protagonists of these two movies were able to win over their circumstances? Give specific examples from the movies.

A: Chris and Erin looks like each other. Everything happens to them. They had a difficult life. But they have guts. Chris is adaptable to people and he have a quick mind. Erin is powerful women who a person deep humanity, and have a strong sense of justice. They are far from shiny in appearance but people who meet with them are get turned on by them charm. And Chris and Erin have kids. They kids were the source of energy and power for them.

Movie English 2 : Coach Carter

I watched Coach Cater in Movie English class.

This is questions from teacher and my feedback.

1.Coach Carter is based on the true story of a Richmond High School basketball coach who tries to effect positive change in a group of student athletes who have given up hope on creating a successful future.

Q: How does Coach Carter accomplish positive change and how are his methods similar and/or different from Erin Gruwell's (Freedom Writers) methods . Give examples and details from the movie.

A: Carter’s methods is little different from Erin Gruwell’s methods. He came face-to-face with students when they first met. He carry penalty to students who talk back to Coach and throw up the basketball club. Carter educate not only basketball but also academic results. But there are similar methods. Carter and Erin’s method of teaching is get students interested like he used his ex-girlfriends name as a metaphor for game plan.

2. At the beginning of the basketball season Coach Carter gets his players to sign a contract.

Q: What were the main items of the contract? And why do you think Coach Carter had the players sign such a contract before they could play? Do you agree or disagree with this?

A: Carter made students promise about meet the necessary standards for improve performance, sit down front in class, wear a suit and tie before a game. This is for student’s future. Carter said “Study if you don’t want to go to prison.” I agree with Carter’s thinking. He taught for students it is key to the victory that observe the rule before teaching basketball technique. Eventually students went along with Carter.

3. When Coach Cater found out that over half of his team was failing he suspended all practice sessions and forfeited the following games.

Q: Why do you think he did that? What does the expression, "student-athlete mean?" Do you agree or disagree with the meaning of this expression?

A:  Carter suspended all practice sessions and forfeited the following games because students broke commitments. I think “student-athlete” means students should have it both ways. They tries harder good student and good athlete. I think he did too much but I agree with him. I think they would lose both if he didn’t do that.

4. At various times throughout the movie, Coach Carter asks Cruz, "what is your deepest fear young man?"

Q: What do you think Coach Cater meant by that? How does Cruz answer Coach Carter and what do you think his answer means? 

A: Carter asked Cruz many time “What is your deepest fear young man?” Cruz not answer clearly all this time but Finally, Cruz answered “Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. You are playing small doesn't serve the world. There's nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. It's not just in some of us it's in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we're liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.” Cruz did drug courier and he felt envious of teammate because they play happily and strengthen step by step. One night, Cruz lost his friends to got shot. I think that then and only then Cruz realized he have nothing left but basketball.

5. And the end of the movie during the locker room scene Coach Cater tells his team that he failed to meet his objectives for the basketball season.

Q: What did he mean by that? Give specific examples from the movie.

A: At the end of the movie Carter told his team in locker room “Oh well, now, not quite your story book ending hah? Not for us anyway. But you men played like champions, you never gave up, and champions hold their heads high. What you achieved goes way beyond the win loss column or whats gona be written on the front pages of the sport's section tomorrow. You've achieved something that some people have spent their whole lives trying to find, what you achieved is that ever elusive victory with-in, and gentlemen I am so proud of you. Four month ago when I took the job at Richmond High, I had a plan, that plan failed. I came to coach basketball players and you became students. I came to teach boys and you became men, and for that I thank you.” I think that Cater taught students not only basketball technique but also way for human to go. Carter was also as coach of life. This movie is based on a real story. How many children can meet teacher like Coach Carter? These students is how happy. I wanted to meet teacher like Carter.

Movie English 1 : Freedom Writers

I watched Freedom Writers in Movie English class. 
This is teacher's question and my feedback.

1.Freedom Writers is based on the true story of a class of Woodrow Wilson high school students struggling to survive violent racial tension on a daily basis. The school is racially divided and is described by one of the characters as being "like the city, and the city is just like a prison, all of them divided into separate sections, depending on tribes. There's Little Cambodia. The Ghetto. Wonder Bread Land. And us, South of the Border or Little Tijuana. That's just the way it is, and everyone knows it. But soon enough, you have little wannabes trying to hit you up at school. demanding respect they haven't earned. It looks like this, one tribe drifting quietly to another's territory without respect, as if to claim what isn't theirs. An outsider looking in would never see it, but we could feel it. Something was coming"

Q: What do you think she meant when she said"It looks like this, one tribe drifting quietly to another's territory without respect, as if to claim what isn't theirs. As outsider looking in would never see it, but we could feel it. Something was coming." Give examples and details from the movie

A: 1. Eva is one of the girl who had a trying experience. So, she said that. “It looks like this, one tribe drifting quietly to another’s territory without respect, as if to claim what isn’t theirs. An outsider looking in would never see it, but we could feel it. Something was coming.” It is saying a lot. In movie, she ran like run away from antagonistic tribes in city. Not only Eva but also she’s classmate. They walk to and from school at risk to their life because there were gangland bloodletting or dueling about prejudice of race.

One day, Latino American gang tried to gun black gang down but they mistaked and gun down Asian boy. These problem as their fear that doesn’t make sense to outsider like Ms.G.

2. Two years ago voluntary integration was introduced into the school district.

Q: What is voluntary integration? And what did some of the Wilson High School teachers think about voluntary integration? Do you agree or disagree with the attitudes of these teachers? Why? Include details from the movie.

A: The Woodrow Wilson High School was school where get together able students some time ago. But the school district introduced voluntary integration the abolition of racial discrimination After L.A. Riots. The Woodrow Wilson High School teachers thought poorly of that. A principal, Ms.Campbell and other teachers took students as a fool. Teachers thought students doesn’t have intellectual interest because most students spend their time private war. So teachers disdained students.

I think that teacher’s attitude caused problem of a student's misbehavior. Other teachers didn’t try to look identity of students. For example, Ms.Cambell said no about buy new educational material for students because that is squandering of budgetary allocations. And top class’s teacher asked black girl question about black intensively. I disagree with attitudes of these teachers

3. Miep Gies, the women who hid Anne Frank in her attic, said that "we are all ordinary people. But even an ordinary secretary or a housewife or a teenager can, within their own small way, turn on a small light in a dark room."

Q: What do you think Miep Gies was trying to say to the students when she said this? How do you think you could put this statement into practice in your own life?

A: I think Miep Gies wanted to say that race, sex, age, position, and rich or poor doesn’t matter to do own job properly or do the right things. Actually, Miep Gies who hide Ann from Nazis was ordinary people, too. I think so.

I have had moment what I thought this is the right but I couldn’t do that. Because I’m not had courage. I want to come across this movie much earlier.

4.Erin Gruwell had the students make a "toast for change" in the movie.

Q: What was the purpose of doing a toast for change? Do you think it was effective in helping the students? Use details from the movie to support your answer.

A: Erin had the students make a “toast for change!” What that means is, from this moment on every voice that told you “You can't" is silenced. Every reason that tells you things will never change, disappears. And the person you were before this moment, that person's turn over. Said Erin.

I think there words moved their hearts. They doesn’t obsessed with the past and step forward. For example, they reads Ann Frank and they collecting money for ask Meip Gies over high school. Erin had a profound influence on their life.

5. The tittle of the movie is also the tittle of the book Erin Gruwell's students published about their various experiences.

Q: Why did the students decide the call their book "Freedom Writers?" Give specific examples from the movie.

A: This title means they who wrote a diary. They wrote free about their past, family, late friends, gang, hope and anything. And this title proceed white and black drive across the country by bus and achieved racial equality movement when civil-rights movement.

There are two mouses who live in country and town. Two mouses went out to the house to play each other. I thought finally we like the place where one was born and raised. I love my hometown, too.

Movie Review 6: Men in Black 1

Men in Black was made in the United States in 1997. Tommy Lee Jones appears as Agent K. Will Smith appears as Agent J (James Edwards). Showrunner is Steven Spilberg. This movie is first of a series. This movie series is very famous and I have seen only Men in Black 3 for no special reason. 

Men in Black (M.I.B)is based on urban legend is the mastermind behind all humanity. I’m interested in urban legends, so I really enjoyed this movie. They were deleted census registers, finger mark, and name. And MIB a thirty seven-hour workday, they must battle with aliens. And MIB person can’t involved people deeply. So I’m impressed that K loves girlfriends with all his heart and he ended up being happy. I think this work is the toughest job around.

In this movie, there are  many aliens. It is said that even a celebrities are alien like Dennis Rodman in the movie. Possibly I think there are many aliens in my immediate circle like family, friends, teacher... I hate bugs intensely, so this movie was grotesque for me. But agent J and K was very cool, and very funny. personally, I like the scene that agent K spits out lemonade silently. And I like the scene that agent J keep saying "Don't do flash!" Actually, agent K used machines erase memories for agent J but, agent J doesn't think so. This movie was interesting because the jokes are serious. They joke seriously. I didn't need to take this movie too seriously. I like this movie ended. The earth is a tiny, and it is perhaps alien's marble. There was a shift in my thinking. It's good movie irrespective of age and sex. Especially, I recommend this movie when watching with family.
